# Enable push notifications

If Filo isn't popping banners or showing badge counts, the OS probably never got permission. Here's how to fix that.

### macOS & Windows

| Step | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| 1 | Open **`System Settings`** → **scroll the left sidebar** and click **`Notifications`**. |
| 2 | On the right, scroll the app list, select **Filo Mail**. |
| 3 | Toggle **Allow Notifications ON** at the top. |
| 4 | Pick your style— _Banners_ or _Alerts_—and enable **Badge App Icon** if you want unread counts in the Dock. |
| 5 | (Optional) flip **Play sound for notifications** to ON so Important mail never slips by. |

### iOS & Android

| Step | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| 1 | Open the **`Settings`** app → **`Notifications`**. |
| 2 | Tap **Filo Mail** in the app list. |
| 3 | Turn **Allow Notifications ON**. |
| 4 | Choose delivery style ( _Lock Screen_, _Notification Center_, _Banners_) and switch **Badges** ON for icon counts. |
| 5 | (Optional) enable **Sounds** so you'll hear Important messages arrive. |

**Tip:** For a more seamless experience, you can set Filo as your system-wide default email client. Go to Filo `Settings` and select `Set Filo as Default Mail App`. This ensures that whenever you click an email address on a webpage or in another app, Filo will automatically open.

### Fine-tune inside Filo

1. Go to **`Settings`** → **`Notifications`**.
2. **Notifications** supports two settings: **Mail** and **To-dos**.

- •**Mail**: turn notifications on/off per inbox address and per label.
- •**To-dos**: turn push on/off for **new To-dos** and **due reminders**.

Changes take effect immediately.

### Still not seeing alerts?

| Issue | Fix |
| --- | --- |
| **Focus / Do Not Disturb active** | Check **Control Center** (macOS & iOS) and turn off Focus modes. |
| **Low Power Mode (iOS)** | Background fetch can pause—disable Low Power Mode or plug in. |
| **Network restrictions** | VPN or firewall may block push—test on another network. |
| **Background App Refresh off (iOS)** | Settings → General → Background App Refresh → enable **Filo Mail**. |

Once notifications are enabled, real-time banners and badge counts keep you on top of what matters.
